1. QRA Annual Discussion Meeting 2018
Data/model inter-comparison in Quaternary research
The QRA Annual Discussion Meeting 2018 will be held between Wednesday 3rd and Friday 5th January 2018 at the University of Plymouth. The meeting aims to bring together researchers across the broad range of sub-disciplines within Quaternary science. This will enable the sharing of ideas, approaches to data-model inter-comparisons including dealing with uncertainties, and the dissemination of research across the discipline. There have been major recent advances in Quaternary research in both data and modelling approaches and the conference aims to highlight these. There will be an optional fieldtrip to Kent’s Cavern and Hope’s Nose raised beach on Saturday 6th January.
Stephanie Mills, Caroline Clason, Neil Roberts, Ralph Fyfe, Nicki Whitehouse, Matt Telfer, Anne Mather, Time Daley and Jessie Woodbridge

2. QRA Executive Committee Nominations
Six members of the QRA Executive Committee complete their terms of office in January 2018. Following the call in the last Circular, one nomination was received for each post. There being no other candidates, a ballot is unnecessary; the nominees will therefore begin their terms of office in January 2018:
Secretary: Helen Roe (QUB)
Publications: Katherine Selby (York)
Meetings: Becky Briant (Birkbeck)
Outreach: Kimberley Davies (Plymouth)
Publicity: Tom Roland (Exeter)
Ordinary: John Hiemstra (Swansea)
3. Member Consultation: Circular
The Executive Committee seeks guidance from the membership concerning the future of the Circular. The role of this document has become diminished in recent years following the move online for most of the Association’s business. Many of the announcements and information that the Circular was designed to carry now appear on the QRA webpages and/or are distributed to members in a timely fashion via the email news-shot. Is there a continued value for the Circular as a stand-alone document, therefore? The Executive Committee seeks input from members before the issue is discussed at their next meeting in Spring 2018. Members are invited to provide written comment before the end of February 2018 by whichever means are convenient, including email (to either the President or the Secretary) and letter. There will also be an opportunity to discuss this issue at the forthcoming AGM in January. The Executive Committee will report back to the membership in due course.
4. QRA Awards
The next deadline for QRA Awards applications is 15 January 2018. In this round we welcome applications for the following schemes: New Research Workers’ Award; Quaternary Conference Fund; Quaternary Research Fund; the Bill Bishop Award; and the QRA–14CHRONO Centre Radiocarbon Dating Awards. Eligibility criteria and application procedures are detailed on the Awards webpages. For further details, please contact the Awards Officer, Adrian Palmer.
5. QRA Outreach Fund
The QRA encourages its members and others to promote and foster engagement between Quaternary Science and a wide and diverse audience. In support, we operate an Outreach Fund from which grants of up to £1000 are awarded annually. Please contact the Outreach Officer, Barbara Silva, for more details. The next deadline is 1 March 2018.
